ISO 22000:2018 specifies requirements for a food safety management system in which an organization in the food chain must demonstrate its ability to control food safety risks to ensure that food is safe for human consumption. It is applicable to all organizations, regardless of size, involved in any aspect of the food chain that want to implement systems that consistently supply safe products. The means to fulfill all the requirements of ISO 22000:2018 can be achieved using internal and/or external resources. ISO 22000: 2018 specifies the requirements necessary to enable an organization to - Plan, implement, operate, maintain and update a food safety management system that aims to provide products that are safe for the consumer according to their intended use, - Demonstrate compliance with applicable statutory and regulatory food safety requirements, - Assess and evaluate customer requirements and demonstrate compliance with mutually agreed customer requirements regarding food safety in order to improve customer satisfaction, - To effectively communicate food safety issues to its suppliers, customers and interested parties in the supply chain, - Ensure that the organization complies with its stated food safety policy, - Demonstrate compliance to interested parties, and - Request certification or registration of its food safety management system by an external organization or prepare a self-assessment or self-declaration of compliance with ISO 22000: 2018 or prepare a self-assessment or self-declaration of compliance with ISO 22000: 2018.
